Insulated roller garage door

Automated and insulated roller garage doors combine the convenience of motorized operation with the functionality and minimal space requirement of vertical opening.

Most modern roller garage doors are thermally insulated with a construction that sees twin walled aluminium slats insulated with CFC (Chloro-fluoro-carbon) free foam to minimize heat loss and reduce sound transmissions.

These are important features as many garage spaces now have multi-purpose uses that may include general storage, use a workshop, a gym, or other none vehicle related applications. This means that people regularly frequent the garage and keeping a comfortable temperature (without the need for heating) may be a big bonus.

Equally, if the garage is integral to the house and has a connecting door, heat loos and the resulting fuel charges will be reduced with a well insulated garage door.

Garage security

Insulated roller garage doors are strong and structurally secure and this means that they can offer an extra level of protection to the home. The vertical tracks of a roller garage door require multiple fixing points (often 10 or more) and this results in a very high level of break-in resistance and a level of security that is at least comparable (if not better) than most other garage door types.

The additional of motorization and pocket sized remote control operation allows a driver to open and close a roller garage door from inside the vehicle. This avoids the need to leave the car in order to open the garage door and this in turn enhances personal safety, particularly at night, or if the location of the garage door is hidden from public view.

Other advantages of insulated roller garage doors

Insulated roller garage doors are weatherproof, tough and very hard wearing. Most good quality roller garage doors will be made of a double skin insulated construction.

The door frame and body should be manufactured from strong corrosion resistant aluminium with a high quality and high performance insulating core. The factory finish should remove the need for painting (and ongoing maintenance) and keep the door looking and performing well for many years.

Things to look for

Always look for warranties and guarantees and be aware the guarantee on the door and the motor (automation kit) may be for different durations.

Try to select a supplier (manufacturer) who perform their own installations, or failing that an approved fitter. This will prevent possible warranty problems and conflicts in the event of a malfunction or breakdown.

Make sure that the door has some form of safety cut off if it encounters an obstacle. This may be called "intelligent safety", "self learning" or something similar.

Always select a motorized kit with soft-stop and soft-start (cushioned) operation. This reduces stress on the motor, door and frame and makes the operation look more pleasing (and expensive).

Ensure that the door meets any national standards, or complies with all of the health and safety regulations of your country.

Check for design options like the availability of glazed panels, different design, and profiles or moulding etc.
